Backpacking Trip to Kashmir in Autumn – My Experience
Kashmir, which is also known as “Paradise on the Earth”. That Day, I was lying down on my bed and scrolling the feed on Instagram and seen suddenly an advertisement that Go4explore Organising a Backpacking Trip to Kashmir. I checked the dates, price, and itinerary. It was suited perfectly to my schedule and budget, so I booked the package and start shopping for this trip. On this trip, I knew that I will found too much cold temperature and snow, So I purchased the warm jackets, shoes, and gloves from the market and start waiting for the time of departure.
Delhi to Srinagar – The Road Journey-
The First Day, we started our Journey from Delhi to Jammu. I met another traveler there – Jony Jindal, Niharika, Priya and Asitha It was an overnight journey, we did on a sleeper bus and reached Jammu at Morning 9 AM. After reaching Jammu, we took the breakfast and moved towards Srinagar. We catch the shared taxi (Inova) to Srinagar from Jammu. The bus far from Delhi to Jammu was Rs 1200 (for Sleeper) and the taxi fare from Jammu to Srinagar Was Rs 300. After reaching Jammu, We took rest in a houseboat in the famous Dal Lake of Srinagar.
Srinagar to Gulmarg and Butapathri-
Next Day, first we did shikara ride in Dal Lake. That was so amazing experience to do shikara ride in the Dal lake. We explored the Nehru Park, Meena Bazar and many other markets located in the Dal Lake. After this amazing shikara ride, we took breakfast and start our journey towards Gulmarg. We went to an offbeat place named Butapathri, that day which was located around 22 km far away from Gulmarg but the landscape was too different and scenic. We explored an untouched lake of this region which was too green. I was feeling mesmerised in that beauty. We enjoyed a lot there and came back to Gulmarg from there. In Gulmarg, we enjoyed the fantastic view of Mount Affarwat from the Strawberry Valley. Strawberry valley is located near the Gulmarg market (5-6 Kms far Away) and also known as Gulmarg Meadows. This is also famous for ATV Quad Bikes Off-Roading and other activities. That was the day, We spent well in Gulmarg. At night, we enjoyed the bonfire party and slept in a local’s mud house.
Gulmarg to Khilanmarg – Horse Riding-
Next Morning, we woke up and enjoyed our breakfast in front of the view of Snow-capped Mount Affarwat, Sunshine Peak and other high altitude peaks of district Budgam and Baramulla. After the breakfast, we started the activity of this day which was – Horse Riding. We all traveler sat on our horse and started the horse riding towards Khilanmarg. Usually, people visit the Kangandori and sever spring there. So there were not any tourists on the way. It was an ultimate experience to do horse riding on that scenic trail of Kashmir. That moment was precious, when we found the live snowfall on the way. I can’t define that experience. From the top of Khilanmarg, We show a panoramic view of Gulmarg and Strawberry Valley. This is also famous for other high altitude peaks like Mount Harmukh etc. That time, the weather was not so clear, So we hadn’t seen the view of Mount Harmukh and Nanga Parbat. After spending a day by doing horse riding, trekking, enjoying the scenic view of Kashmir Valley, We came back to our mud house and slept after taking the dinner.
Gulmarg to Drang, Tangmarg, Qajipora-
This was the day, when we were exploring the local culture of Kashmir. We start hiking to Drang from the Gulmarg. This was the totally scenic and untouched trail. Only local Kashmiri people know about that trail and they use this trail for bringing their horses and cow from one village to another. After the trekking of 3 hours, we reached the drang waterfall. It was a huge waterfall but not the natural. Yes, it was an artificial man made the waterfall. After Drang, We visited Tangmarg and Qajipora, where we visited local’s home and interact with them. I wore the Kashmiri Feran there the first time. Thanks to Mir Fayaz for giving me that Feran. We Visit IIM in Qajipora which is famous for rose farming. After this, we went to back to our room and slept.
Back to Delhi-
This is the end of our trip, all were emotional because we were leaving that scenic valley and the golden heart peoples and going back to our city Delhi. We said bye to all and moved back to Delhi. We reached jammu from Gulmarg in a taxi and Jammu to Delhi in a sleeper AC Bus.
